Alcoa Publishes 2001 Online Environment, Health and Safety Report

July 31, 2002

PITTSBURGH, Pennsyvania – Alcoa has published its online 2001 Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) report on the company’s website, alcoa.com. In its ninth consecutive year, the report reviews Alcoa’s global environment, health, and safety strategies and performance.

Highlights of the 2001 report include summary of Alcoa’s 2020 EHS strategic plan and the company’s goals for measuring progress toward achieving plans for cleaner air, better use of land and water, and the protection of human health.

In releasing the report Alcoa Chairman and CEO Alain Belda said, “As a values-based organization we are committed to openness in reporting our results. A sustainable future is within the grasp of those people who can imagine it. We forge strong and enduring relationships, learn from experience, and act boldly.

“We can already imagine zero injuries, zero emissions, and zero waste. That is our ‘true north,'” said Belda. “This report on our progress is a continuing invitation to our external stakeholders to engage with us in the pursuit of that sustainability.”

The report complements Alcoa’s 2001 Annual Report and 2001 Community Investment Report, published earlier this year. To view the 2001 EHS report, go to http://www.alcoa.com/global/en/environment/downloadable_reports.asp
