BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WA – May 19, 2008 – Bainbridge Graduate Institute’s (BGI) President Gifford Pinchot III was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by the University of Puget Sound at their commencement ceremonies. Mr. Pinchot delivered the address for the University’s 116th commencement on Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Baker Stadium.

University of Puget Sound President Ronald Thomas described Pinchot as an “inventor, author, innovator, educator, who is painting the world of business green. Founder of our nation’s first green business school in 2002, you (Pinchot) have raised the bottom line for corporations everywhere and raised expectations for all of us.” Thomas said Pinchot was awarded the honorary degree “for your courageous innovation, for your pioneering spirit, and for your commitment to a future that is economically robust and environmentally sustainable for generations to come.”

Washington-based BGI pioneered the MBA in Sustainable Business program that integrates social and environmental responsibility across the full spectrum of the graduate business curriculum. Since its founding in 2002, BGI has trained hundreds of students to successfully lead large corporations, small businesses, and non-profit organizations to compete in the mainstream marketplace while including sustainability as a core strategy.
