Fill up at Esso this Saturday and Support United Way!

September 14, 2007

CALGARY – September 13, 2007 – The fifth annual Esso United Way Day will take place on Saturday, September 15 at 500 Esso sites across Canada. Esso will donate one cent for every litre of gasoline pumped and one dollar from each car wash sold to United Way organizations across the country.

“By simply filling up at your local Esso station this weekend, you’re helping the people in your community,” says Simon Smith, vice-president of fuels marketing at Imperial Oil. “At Esso, we recognize the importance of United Way in our community and we’re delighted to maintain our commitment to this organization from coast to coast. Last year’s one-day event raised more than $185,000 for United Way in Canada.”

“Individual customer contributions may seem small, but in fact, Esso United Way Day represents one of the largest one-day fundraiser of United Way Canada,” notes Al Hatton, President & CEO of United Way Canada. “Through this initiative, Imperial Oil remains one of Canada’s leading donors to United Way. We are thrilled to see Imperial Oil grow its participation in Esso United Way Day and commend the organization for its long-term involvement – contributing more than $17 million since 2000.”

Funds generated from this initiative will be used to support United Way agencies helping youth, families, the homeless and others in need.

Imperial Oil’s Esso United Way Day is one component of the company’s overall national United Way campaign – a campaign that raised close to $3 million for the organization in 2006.

In 2006, Imperial Oil contributed more than $12 million in community investment activities across Canada, building on a tradition of corporate giving that began with the company’s inception in 1880. More than 125 years later, Imperial is supporting organizations from coast-to-coast with an emphasis on education, environment, and the community.
