From Maryland to Mumbai"¦New Award-Winning Website Showcases Marriott’s Social Responsibility Work

December 14, 2011

Marriott International announced today the refresh of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) Web site.

The new site, accessible at www.marriott.com/socialresponsibility, is devoted to sharing how the company does business – responsibly – from Maryland to Mumbai and all around the world.

The Web site was recently awarded the Bronze Adrian Award given by  Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International.  Of the 1,000 entries, the Marriott CSR Web site was judged to be exceptional by expert hospitality, travel, tourism and media professionals and was evaluated based on its own merit and success in achieving its objectives.

The easy-to-navigate site is divided into three sections full of vivid pictures and engaging videos that invite the visitor to discover Marriott’s global “Business Values,” initiatives to preserve the “Environment” and commitment to “Society.”  Within each of those sections, visitors have the option to browse initiatives by those that are supported “In Our Hotels” and those “Beyond Our Hotels.”

In the “In Our Hotels” section, visitors will find information about the company’s sustainable efforts that are saving water and energy, such as recycling and linen reuse along with links to hotels that have electric vehicle charging stations and those that are Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design or LEED® – certified.

In the “Beyond Our Hotels” section, visitors will find the latest information about the company’s rainforest preservation project in the Juma Reserve in the state of Amazonas, Brazil and the company’s “Nobility of Nature” project,  a $500,000 commitment to help protect the source of fresh water for more than 2 billion people in Asia.

“We are thrilled to debut an online representation of how we do business around the world,” said Mary L. Snyder, vice president – social responsibility.  “The site is an effective platform to engage our stakeholders and share the story of our global work in our hotels and beyond.”

Marriott believes its global business should be aligned with the issues that are important to the communities in which it operates.  To represent how the company does business, describe commitments and show progress, Marriott focuses on three pillars of sustainability – economic, environment and social.  For more information about the company’s social responsibility strategy, visit www.marriott.com/socialresponsibility
