Richmond, VA – Genworth Financial recently announced that grants totaling $473,000 were awarded to nine Richmond, Virginia charities focused on at-risk youth. The grants will be made from the proceeds of the Genworth Children’s Advantage Classic tennis extravaganza featuring Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf, James Blake and Lindsay Davenport. The nine charities receiving grants include:
Genworth made the announcements throughout the day on September 8 traveling to each organization via a specially decked out “Gift Patrol” van. “We wanted to find a dynamic and creative way to share the grants with our beneficiary organizations,” said Melissa Skottegaard, Genworth’s Community Relations Leader.
The day’s events were capped off with a celebration in Richmond’s Highland Park neighborhood announcing the start of the William Byrd Community House Teen Center. William Byrd used proceeds from last year’s Tennis event to begin the development of the center. The Center will give teens a place to play, learn, work and explore personal opportunities.
The tennis event, which sold out six weeks early last year, will be held at Virginia Commonwealth University’s (VCU) Siegel Center on December 8. Tickets for the event are available through the VCU box office and all TicketMaster outlets. Ticket prices range from $35 to $125. Go to www.genworth.com for more information.
Any money raised above the $473,000 announced commitment, will be divided among the nine beneficiary charities.
