CSRwire – PORTLAND, OR. – June 16, 2009 – GreenPrint Technologies today announced the launch of GreenPrint Version 2.0. After more than two years in development, the software boasts major feature and performance improvements, most notably increasing the speed for the average user by 5 to 10 times that of the previous version.
The paper-saving software, which eliminates unwanted pages and reduces printing by 17% or more, has been redesigned from the ground up around Microsoft’s new XPS print path. In addition to improved speed, the new architecture also provides greater waste detection functionality and better output performance.
“We realized pretty quickly after launching Version 1 that in order to get the consistent use necessary to save the average user $100 per year in printing costs, we needed to make GreenPrint much, much faster,” said GreenPrint CTO James Kellerman. “It’s been a very long, hard road but the impact on the product has made it well worth it.”
In contrast to its previous release schedule, the company is launching a free version of its latest software at the same time as the paid Home Premium version. “We are committed to having the biggest positive impact we can, and providing GreenPrint World V2 at launch will help us accelerate our progress towards saving a million trees and a hundred million pounds of greenhouse gases,” said GreenPrint CEO Hayden Hamilton.
The launch this week is the first major PC product release since GreenPrint Version 1.0, which launched in November 2006 to wide critical acclaim, including a write-up by Walt Mossberg in The Wall Street Journal. In addition to releasing V2 of Home Premium and World today, the company plans to launch a new version of its Enterprise edition shortly. This version will add significant new print management and reporting functionality for large organizations, enhancing the cost savings and improving the environmental benefits.
GreenPrint software analyzes each page of every document sent to the printer and looks for typical waste characteristics (e.g. pages with just a URL, banner ad, logo, or legal jargon) and then highlights and removes them. It also makes it easier for users to select only the pages they want to print, provides image removal options, and allows a file to be saved as a PDF rather than printing. GreenPrint saves the average user over $90 and 1,400 wasted pages per year and allows enterprises to quantify the ecological and cost-saving benefits that result from using the software.
GreenPrint’s Version 2 will be available on the GreenPrint website (www.printgreener.com) for download beginning today. World is free for home users, non-profits and schools, and Home Premium is $29 per computer. Free trials of the Enterprise edition are available by contacting GreenPrint at [email protected] or at 503.241.0818.
