New Sustainability Program Helps Executives Accelerate Organizational Integration of the Triple Bottom Line "“ People, Planet and Profit

June 26, 2008

MADISON, NJ – June 25, 2008 – This fall, Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Institute for Sustainable Enterprise (ISE) will bring together executives from diverse corporations, consulting firms and small businesses to participate in Managing Sustainability, an intensive, 5-month, post-graduate sustainability program that will use participants’ company projects to arm them with the knowledge, tools and experience to take sustainability to greater heights in their organizations.

Unique in its highly-interactive program design, this course will leverage the experience of participants as well as the expertise of faculty in state-of-the-art sustainability practice relevant to all critical areas of business, thereby creating a powerful and practical educational experience and ongoing executive networks. Topics to be covered include global issues of sustainability and competitiveness, international business and financial markets, the economy and the environment, responses to emerging markets and new social-commercial alliances – the expanding role of non-profits, NGOs and communities in business. Additional specialized topics comprise environmental science and policy, natural resource conservation, eco-efficiency and renewable energy, operations and supply chain issues, sustainability branding and marketing, sustainability metrics, trade agreements and development, managing across boundaries and project negotiation.

The course will take place in two locations. First, at FDU’s College at Florham, Madison, NJ, classes will start September 12th, convening on Fridays and Saturdays, every third week, for a total of five weekends. Subsequently, during an eight-day experiential learning component, students will attend class at INCAE Business School in Costa Rica, one of the world’s leading international business schools. INCAE’s sustainability program for management focuses on solving real-life case studies of company integration with sustainable development challenges. This part of the program will be conducted from October 20th through November 2nd. Ongoing partnership with a professional executive leadership coach will provide participants with an opportunity to practice new leadership, team development and team engagement competencies as they develop and execute their strategic, organizational sustainability projects.

According to ISE Executive Director, Gerard Farias, “After completing this groundbreaking program, participants will be able to incorporate sustainability into their overall organizational strategy. Indeed, they also will have the ability to integrate sustainability into the strategies, operations and resultant contributions of every department within their organization.”

Dan Twomey, ISE International Partnerships Director further notes that “ISE guarantees a return to participants and their firms that is of much greater value than their investment.”

Jeana Wirtenberg, former corporate HR executive, added “This program offers a wonderful opportunity for learning, development and career growth.”

AACSB International accredits both Fairleigh Dickinson’s Silberman College of Business and INCAE. Participants will receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and a Certificate of Completion at the end of the course. After completing the program, FDU’s Institute for Sustainable Enterprise will sponsor special programs for graduates and other leaders in its network to exchange knowledge and experiences. The fee of $14,000 covers all program expenses including educational materials, meals and team coaching. It includes housing, meals, ground transportation and program expenses in Costa Rica. Roundtrip airfare is to be handled by each participant independently.
