While the World Cup finals continue to captivate millions of global soccer fans, the One World Futbol Project (www.oneworldfutbol.com)-a new, socially-responsible business-today debuted the One World Futbol, the world’s first, ultra-durable, all-terrain soccer ball.
Recognizing the global need for a resilient soccer ball, the One World Futbol Project sells the new ball on its website through a “Buy One Give One” model. For every ball bought at retail (U.S. $39.50), the One World Futbol Project is donating a second ball to a non-governmental organization (NGO) working with people who live in harsh environments around the world, including refugee camps, UN hot spots, and inner cities. The ball is also available for bulk sales to institutions and organizations-with heavily discounted pricing for NGOs.
“We are part of a growing trend of socially-responsible companies looking for ways to help global communities while at the same time operating a sustainable business,” said Tim Jahnigen, inventor of the One World Futbol, and co-founder of the One World Futbol Project. “Our ‘Buy One Give One’ model, combined with the ultra-durable nature of the ball, enables individuals to help give everyone the opportunity to play soccer with a ball that matches the endurance of the sport.”
The One World Futbol is designed to be the most durable soccer ball in the world. Inspired by video of Darfur refugees playing soccer with a makeshift ball, Jahnigen shared his idea for the One World Futbol with world-renowned entertainer Sting, who then funded the ball’s development.
“When Tim came to me with his idea for a football [soccer ball] that could be played on any surface and would never need a pump and never go flat, I immediately thought of all the millions of children and young people who could use the ball in refugee camps, conflict zones, and poor communities all over the world,” said Sting. “I hope you’ll join me in supporting the [One World Futbol] Project.”
The One World Futbol Project also runs the One World Futbol Project Foundation, which distributes balls for free through NGOs, serving communities in need around the world.
