May 25, 2007- HSBC, one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, has published its 2006 corporate responsibility (CR) report. The report is available online via http://www.reportalert.info/ra/HSBC250507.htm

The report provides an update on HSBC’s progress during 2006, including a spotlight on responsible finance, tax management and efforts to tackle climate change. It also highlights 2006 achievements including HSBC’s new Energy Sector Policy and Carbon Finance Strategy, and the launch of ‘Future First’ a five-year US$10 million programme to help street children, children in care and orphans. The report notes challenges HSBC is facing including further reducing carbon dioxide emissions and how best to measure CR progress.

Det Norske Veritas provided independent assurance for the report including a specific review of HSBC’s implementation of the Equator Principles and HSBC’s carbon neutral status.

HSBC was named FT ‘Sustainable Bank of the Year 2006’ in recognition of its leadership in merging social, environmental and business objectives.
