Senate Candidate Deirdre Healy's Campaign to Offset Environmental Footprint

August 25, 2006

Deirdre Healy, environmentalist and challenger for the First Worcester District State Senate Seat, is taking a leadership role in the community that will directly reduce greenhouse gases. Healy is offsetting the carbon footprint generated by her campaign by supporting renewable energy and tree planting projects that offset and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Healy explains, “In my Senate campaign I’ve been doing more driving than normal and I’ve created campaign materials. Through the Carbonfund.org Foundation, I’m able to make tax-deductible donations to environmental projects that offset greenhouse gas pollution and these projects will neutralize the pollution a political campaign creates.”

According to Healy, each of us can make a difference. “By doing this,” she says, “I am demonstrating to residents one simple step they can take to reduce the excess carbon dioxide emissions in our environment that are causing the Earth’s climate changes that we are experiencing.”

Healy’s donation will go to Carbonfund.org which is a leading non-profit environmental organization that educates the public about the dangers of climate change and makes it easy and affordable for individuals, businesses and organizations to reduce their climate impact. Carbonfund.org supports renewable energy and reforestation projects globally that reduce the CO2 emissions from the Healy campaign.

Eric Carlson, Executive Director of Carbonfund.org says Healy is the first state senate candidate in the nation to join their CarbonfreeĀ™ program. “The science of global warming is settled and it is now time for everyone to take action. Ms. Healy’s leadership and action on global warming is important today and for future generations,” said Carlson. “It is easy and affordable for each of us to reduce our carbon footprint, thereby helping to solve global warming.”

“I truly care about Massachusetts and our environment,” Healy says. “By becoming aware of my carbon footprint, I am doing my part to improve global warming conditions. I challenge all other Massachusetts politicians to offset their environmental footprint by reducing the greenhouse gases from their campaigns, too.”
