Siemens Solar Supplies Modules for Largest Roof Installation in the World

March 20, 2001

Siemens Solar Industries L.P. announced today that Siemens Nederland N.V., The Hague, will be supplying the largest solar roof installation in the world. Approximately 19,000 solar modules with a cumulative peak power of 2.3 megawatts will be provided for the Floriade 2002 international horticultural exhibition in Amsterdam.

The project is designed so that the solar modules simultaneously function as the actual roof for a semi-open glasshouse and as an electrical plant that will provide electricity directly to the local grid.

The total surface area of the solar installation is around 25,000 square meters or equivalent to almost three soccer fields. Siemens Solar has developed a semitransparent solar module for this project which, in an overhead application, allows the necessary amount of light to shine through to the plants and flowers.

The Dutch power supply utility Nuon has placed an order with Siemens

Nederland N.V., The Hague, for delivery of the solar power plant as a

turnkey project. Siemens Nederland N.V will be starting to install the solar roof in April 2001; the plant will become operational in December 2001.
